The American International School of Abuja (AISA) is a coeducational international day school for English-speaking students in grades pre-school to 12. Located in Nigeria’s capital city, AISA was founded in 1993. The school year runs from August to June, with 180 student contact days. As of March 2016, we have 475 students, PS-12, with 180 in the secondary division. AISA has a diverse International population with students from approximately 40 different Countries.
AISA is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and offers an American curriculum based on U.S. standards. Grade 12 was added in the 2008-2009 school year, and we graduated our first senior class of four in June 2009. In June of 2016, we expect to graduate 16 students. We are a college preparatory institution with the goal of preparing our students for admission into the best universities in the world. There are 24 faculty members in the secondary school of which eight are trained to teach the Advanced Placement program.
Students excelling in academics are awarded three levels of recognition: Honor’s Roll, Principal’s Honor Roll or Director’s Honor Roll, with the Director’s Honor Roll being the highest. The school also hosts a chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS), in which eligible students are inducted every year. NHS along with AISA’s Student Council allow students to develop their leadership skills. AISA offers to its students several activities, including athletics (volleyball, basketball, soccer and swimming), a very active student council, and service learning clubs. Students in athletics have the opportunity to compete in the West African International Schools Activities League. Students interested in the visual and performing arts are able to explore these through our academic offerings and extracurricular annual musical production and art show. Activities and athletics are staffed primarily by AISA teachers and are supervised by an Athletics Director. Students in the high school are encouraged to balance their academic responsibilities with these extracurricular opportunities.
The American International School of Abuja is fully accredited by the Middle States Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 2002.
MSA-CESS accredits American school systems throughout the United States and in 85 countries around the world.
