The Chairman, Governing Council Dr. Bello Yusuf Lafiaji had stated that the essence of the visit was to say “thanks to our mother that has groomed us and had taken good care of us to attain our exalted position and the accompanying laurels”.

He added that, there should be synergy between the two institutions as the College needs the contribution of the University for its Growth. “We must go along with you and seek your advice and guidance and to be with you wherever you go” he said.

PROFILE OF THE WEEK: Dr. BELLO YUSUF LAFIAJI, OON, OFR, FWC, Sarkin Bauren Katsina CHAIRMAN, GOVERNING COUNCIL
By Lawal Aliyu

Dr. Bello Yusuf Lafiaji was born on 2nd of February 1952. He hails from Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State. In his younger days, Lafiaji was a great sportsman as he represented his State in events like hockey, basketball and Cross Country running, in which he was the defunct North Central State champion. He joined the Nigeria Police Force, NPC, at the Police College, Ikeja, while he had his Security Intelligence Training at the SSS Training School, Lagos. That he was well trained as an officer is evident in the fact that he is a product of the Institute of Strategic Studies, Cairo, Egypt, where he trained in 1975. He also trained at the National Intelligence Academy, Fort Lauderdale, USA in 1978 and at Nigeria’s famous National War College.

The dedicated officer in him saw him becoming the Deputy Officer in charge, Abuja SSS Command, after which he became the Director of the State Security Service, DSS, for the Katsina, Kano and Borno Commands, as well as the National Director of Operation and later training.

With many years of service in intelligence behind him, he was seen as the man that could surpass the achievements of late General Musa Bamaiyi in his days as the Chairman of the Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. Six months after his appointment, Lafiaji reversed the 7 year de-certification of Nigeria by the United States. It was, therefore, not surprising to many when the former NDLEA Chairman emerged the Secretary General, and later, the first African President of the European Working Group of the International Drug Enforcement Conference in May, 2004.

His achievements then did not go unnoticed: he received honours both at home and abroad on account of his stream of successes at the agency. They include two National honours of the Order of the Niger, OON and the Officer of Federal Republic OFR. The belief is still held in some quarters that Alhaji Lafiaji was the one that professionalised the NDLEA. He also commanded respect for the way he refocused and restructured the Organisation in order to redeem Nigeria’s image in the International Community.

Dr. Lafiaji was appionted Chairman Governing Council of Federal College of Education, Zaria in May 2017 and is married with wives and children.

HANDY HUMOUR

A mad man saw his fellow mad friend crying by a river side. He sat down beside him and asked:
*_“Why are u crying?"_*
The other one replied:
*_“I put a cube of sugar in this river, but when I tasted, I felt nothing. It's not sweet!"_*
The mad man blew up with laughter and said:
*_"You! You are really very mad! Did you shake it?"_*
*Can't stop laughing..I was buying mangoes at the junction while waiting for change I saw a woman with a little child. The child was walking a bit faster than the woman and the woman shouted; "Degree wait for me"*. *I was so amazed hearing that name. So to satisfy my curiosity, I walked closer to the woman and asked; "ma, why do u call this child degree"*? *The woman laughed and said "I sent her mother to the* *University and this is what she brought home...*
A guy attended a wedding...
After the wedding, the reception was a gathering of about 30 people.
He sat at the front seat. Then a lady started sharing food. She started from the back and unfortunately, it didn't reach those at the front.
When her friends started sharing drinks, they started from the front, but unfortunately, he had already changed his seat to the back, again, the drink didn't reach him.
The guy was so furious and he stood up to take his leave.
But then he saw three ladies each with a big bowl, this time, he tried to be wise by seating at the middle.
To his uttermost surprise, one of the ladies started sharing from the front, and the second lady started distributing from the back.
It was turkey meat. When it got to the middle where he was seated, it got finished again.
Feeling so frustrated, he bent his head, not looking at any face.
BUT then, the third lady tapped him and stretched her bowl that he should pick.. he stretched his hand...
Guess what was in the bowl?
**TOOTHPICK.**
