Federal University Ebonyi Renamed After Ekwueme - FG

The Federal Government has renamed Federal University Ndufu Alike, in Ebonyi State, to Alex Ekwueme Federal University.
Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, made the announcement on Friday, at Oko, Anambra State during the burial of Mr. Ekwueme, who was Vice President of Nigeria between 1979 and 1983.
The University would now be known as Dr. Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo, Ebonyi State.

Family, friends, and well-wishers – including government officials among other dignitaries were present at the event which is ongoing in his hometown in Oko, Anambra State.
Former President, Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Mrs Patience, as well as former Vice President, Namadi Sambo are among those present at the event.
Other state governors in attendance included: Willie Obiano (Anambra), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos) among others.

According to Osinbajo, the decision to rename the school was a way of immortalizing the late architect who has been describes by many as humility personified.
Mr. Osinbajo said the renaming had already been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, who had said Mr. Ekwueme was being honoured for his contributions to national development.
