PROF AKANJI COMMENDS FUTMINNA ALUMNI

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna,
Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji FAS, FNSBMB, has commended the University
alumni for being a worthy ambassadors of the institution and for
organising a successful Maiden Alumni Reunion programme.
The The
Vice-Chancellor made this disclosure during the 2017 FUT, Minna Alumni
Reunion dinner held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Justice Idris
Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna, Niger State.
Prof. Akanji stated that the University is happy with the numerous
commendations received from employers and government agencies on the
performance of its alumni adding that the institution is very proud of
their achievements in life.
The VC stated that alumni are the real
owners of the University and urged them to show more interest in the
activities of the institution. He also disclosed that the University is
doing well among comity of universities in Nigeria based on the latest
webo-metric and 4ICU rankings.
“I am pleased to inform you that
FUT, Minna is now number 5 in 4ICU ranking and 45 in Africa out of over
4, 323 universities that were ranked by international organizations. We
are also first in Nigeria among the specialised universities,” Prof.
Akanji stated.
He informed the alumni that the University has
reengineered its transcript delivery process from three months to one
week and that graduates of the University now get their certificates on
the day of convocation. He further advised the alumni to remember their
alma mater by giving back to the University.
Speaking earlier, the
Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of FUT, Minna Alumni, Dr.
Mohammed Jiya expressed appreciation to all members of the University
alumni for the sacrifices made for the event to take place despite the
short notice, adding that the event has boosted the awareness level of
the existence of FUT, Minna alumni.
The Chairman noted that the
maiden edition of the Alumni Reunion programme was geared at
reconnecting with the institution’s graduates with the hope of building a
robust alumni association that every graduate of the University would
be proud of. He called for strong working relationship between the
University Management and the Alumni.
Dr. Jiya disclosed that the
body is committed to the development of the University while stating
that the University would start feeling the impact of its alumni in no
distant time. He commended the Local Organizing Committee for organising
the event.
The event also witnessed the presentation of awards to
all the past Vice-Chancellors and the present ViceChancellor of the
University, Prof. Akanji who was bestowed with an award in recognition
of his contributions to the development of the institution. Others
awarded at the event were some alumni who have distinguished themselves
in their chosen fields of endeavour.
The 3-day event was rounded
off with a tour of the Main Campus and a reunion picnic at the Students’
Recreation Centre, Main Campus on Sunday, October 1, 2017. The theme of
the 2017 FUT, Minna Alumni Retreat was: Creating Wealth Outside the
Box: Options for FUT, Minna Alumni.
