After so many warnings by the Kogi State Government on the on-going Strike, the SUG ASUU, KSU Chapter appeals to the ASUU National President in a letter conveyed today.

Sir,
We write on behalf of the Student Union Government (SUG) of Kogi State University, Anyigba, to humbly appeal to you to kindly intervene and assist in the suspension of the about six month old strike embarked upon by the Kogi State Univeristy Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universites (ASUU).
This appeal is not because we are convinced that the issues which led to the strike have been fully resolved; rather, it is soley because of the plight of students who are at receiving end of the empasse.
Sir, we are fully aware of the legitimacy of the strike action which borders on the reconstitution of Governing Council and payment of outstanding salaries and allowances to all academic staff of the institutions. We are equally aware that substantial aspect of the demand are yet to be met by the Government, especially as it concerns salaries of your memebers, cleared and uncleared in the cause of the screening exercise embarked upon by the Kogi State Government.
However, Sir, due to the decision of the Visitor and Governor to provide practical solution as reflected in his promise to pay all outstanding salaries on or before 31st July, 2017 and the passionate appeals by His Royal Majesty, The Attah of Igala and Chairman Kogi State Council of Traditional Rulers and other dignitaries who made presentations during the Governor’s visit, we hereby passionately appeal to you to help prevail on the University Chapter of the Union to consider the plights of students and suspend the strike.
It is our firm belief that the suspension will give benfit of doubt to the promise made by the Governor during the visit and the appeals presented by other stakeholders on the occasion.
Sir, we are not in a position to educate you on the consequences of the lingering problem which include but not limited to the hampering of the future progress of students as well as the gradual collapse of the core values of the institution.
Furthermore, we appeal with utmost sincerity as children fully supportive of the legitimate cause of the Union and partners committed to the progress of the institution. Our future is at stake, our mates in various institutions worldwide are engaged in academic activities while we roam about the street not sure of our fate. Sir, we are sure that it is not in your interest to allow this to linger anymore.
Sir, kindly be assured that the Students Union Government of Kogi State University is ever ready to work with the lecturers of the institution to make Kogi State University a greater place not just for our generation, but also for the sake of posterity .
