FUTA Gets Ondo State Partnership in Tech Hub

The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said that his administration will partner with the Federal University of Technology, Akure FUTA to establish a technological hub in the Institution.

FUTA Gets Ondo State Partnership in Tech Hub

The Governor stated this during the commissioning of four projects completed by the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Adebiyi Daramola. At the commissioning which preceded the inauguration of the New Vice-Chancellor Professor Joseph Fuwape, four projects were commissioned.

These include the three-in-one Lecture Theatres at Obanla and Ibule-Soro campuses, the water plant and the Zero net building of the Centre for Renewable Energy Technology [CRET].

The Governor stated that his administration will establish technological hubs in citadels of learning in the three Senatorial Districts of the state and that FUTA will host that of the Central District. The Governor said Ondo State was fast becoming a fountain of knowledge and expressed delight at the novel innovations springing up from FUTA. This he said will inform his decision to draw his pool of consultants from the Institution.

Taking the Governor and his entourage through the components of the zero-net CRET Building, the Director, Professor Olurinde Lafe disclosed that the brains behind the building were drawn from the 18 Local Governments of Ondo State after a thorough and rigorous screening process. He said the building needed only five per cent of the energy it produces from its solar farm and that the remaining percentage will be donated to the University.

At the water plant, an elated Governor Akeredolu said that FUTA had achieved water reticulation on the university campus, what the state had failed to achieve over the years despite the presence of the Owena Dam. He said with adequate water reticulation, water will flow ceaselessly in Akure and all the others senatorial Districts of the State.

Akeredolu described the plant with its treatment plant and aeration process as an eye opener for the state government and commended Daramola for his foresight and doggedness in ending the hitherto perennial water shortage on the campus.

The immediate Vice Chancellor Professor Daramola who thanked Arakunrin Akeredolu for his working visit to the Campus urged the Governor to extend the support of the Ondo State Government which he enjoyed during his tenure to Professor Fuwape , his successor.

Commissioning the three-in-one Lecture Theatre at Ibule-Soro, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Joseph Waku, lauded the Daramola led administration for transforming the landscape of FUTA with functional edifices and expressed optimism that his successor will tow his path.
